Ashok Gupta runs a clinic (Harley Street Solutions Ltd) and an NLP web site CFSRecovery.com. His programme is now called 'Gupta amygdala retraining'. It works on the basis that most CFS problems are caused by over-stimulation of the Amygdala of the brain, i.e. too much adrenaline being continuously produced and general biochemical hyperreactivity, which is likely to be a major contributary factor in many CFS cases. Gupta himself overcame his own CFS using these techniques combined with improved nutrition. He treats CFS patients with NLP techniques alone, recommending only in addition some basic nutritional dietary improvements, rather than nutritional, supplemental, detoxification and other biochemical treatments ('external agents'). His Gupta Amygdala Retraining is based on retraining the Amydala, using NLP type techniques. He also offers an recovery programme on DVD - BlackSpy is currently trialling this for himself and will provide a full review in due course. Links to Ashok Gupta's medical theories on CFS are shown below also. NLP is endorsed on Health-Spy.com for assisting recovery in CFS patients, but in addition to a number of medical tests and treatments.

Neurostructural Integration Technique (NST) is a form of holistic massage developed from the famous osteopath Tim Bowen's Bowen Technique by applied Physiologist, Michael J. Nixon-Livy from Australia in 1995. It combines disciplines like Kinesiology with Osteopathy and many others. It is reputed to enable body to 'communicate better with itself' through stimulating the nervous system in a specific manner. Some claim it to be a refinement of the Bowen Technique (or perhaps it is a 'trademark' issue). A find a practitioner tool can be fond at the second link, although it is best to use a national rather than regional search as some practitioners do not appear to be correctly categorised at present. The third link is from Dr Joseph Mercola's web site, including an article by Nixon-Livy. Mercola believes NFT to be a useful tool in treating CFS and Fibromyalgia patients.

He also has a book 'Total Health Program' available as a paperback (2003) from Amazon (cheaper) or an e-book from his site (more expensive). He is also selling a variety of health products on his web site, including Whey Healthier and Kefir Starter Pack (freeze dried kefir granules). Delivery times may vary. Dr Mercola is also a health consultant. He also sits on the Board of Directors of the WestonA. Price Foundation. Dr Mercola is no stranger to controversy, and whilst BlackSpy finds the majority of his articles useful, they are rather informal in presentation (i.e. blogs). Dr Mercola sometimes make bold claims without backing these up with hard facts. However that might be said about Health-Spy.com! Use your own judgement. Overall his web site is a great resource.
www.mercola.com
End Fatigue is Dr Jacob Teitelbaum's web site. He sells a range of supplements for CFS. He is also a consultant for CFS and FMS sufferers. He can recommend consultants in your area. His book From Fatigued To Fantastic (listed in the books section below) is also worth buying as a reference guide for certain areas, but contains no information on toxicity and detoxification, and does not strongly differentiate between recommended and less ideal treatments described.

CureZone.Com is a major source of information on a variety of health issues. The usefulness of information on this site may vary.

Dr James Wilson's web site Adrenal Fatigue is listed below.

Ian Solley's web site This Cure Works sells an e-book on chronic fatigue syndrome. The book covers a broad range of material, and contains information on toxicity, its effects, lifestyle, lipid exchange, diet and detoxification and nutritional supplements. His preferred detoxification method is to use of Cilantro, Chlorella, PCA-Rx, Butyrate, Phosphatidyl Choline and Coffee Enemas, which is similar in many respects to that described on this web site. Do read the Q&A appendix at the end in conjunction with the supplementation regimes and doses and detox sections as much of the necessary information is actually there and not integrated into the relevant sections of the book. Ian Solley is sometimes unfairly criticised for selling an e-book on line rather than providing the information for free. Ian heavily advertises his site on google adwords, which is a pay-per-click service. It is extremely easy to rack up costs of 100s each month, and so I would be suprised if he breaks even. Whilst BlackSpy has heavily advertised Health-Spy.com in the past on google adwords, it was financially disasterous, and currently Health-Spy.com has only a token minimal presence on google adwords. Ian is able to reach many more people by pursuing his marketing strategy, but of course, it relies on the user being prepared to buy the e-book when they click on the advert and visit his site. BlackSpy was inspired in some respects to produce this web site from many of the things he read in Solley's book. BlackSpy felt that certain topics were not covered in enough detail, related to other areas or put into the right context, some concepts were not spelt out properly for the novice (e.g. cell membrane integrity and the mechanisms of neurotoxin attachment and detoxification) and that some information relating to the same topic was found in different places, making it easy to miss something important (e.g. dosage and supplementation manufacturer information). In addition, certain topics are mentioned in passing, e.g. FIR saunas, rather than being stressed as a core part of the detoxification protocol. But credit where credit is due, BlackSpy was pointed in the direction of a number of topics and supplements because of this e-book. And whilst BlackSpy was not totally convinced on the strength of what he read in the e-book with regards to phospholipid therapy and FIR saunas, he independently came to the same conclusions on these topics himself some time later himself.

Ian Solley also now offers an e- book entitled 'This Diet Works: Your Food Freedom' which is essentially a high protein diet recipe book. It is designed for use by those with food allergies, to treat and cure those allergies. BlackSpy will be reviewing this book shortly.

Dr Myhill's approach to treating CFS is to treat mitochondrial dysfunction by removing toxins or other factors that have caused it, to provide enough co-factors to allow proper mitochondrial function, and to repair oxidative damage and enough rest and a good diet. These are some of the principles discussed on www.health-spy.com.

Beat CFS and FMS aka Advanced Techniques for Overcoming CFS, FMS and GWS is a personal web site with a good overview of many causative factors, areas of investigation and possible treatments regarding CFS, Fibromyalgia and Gulf War Syndrome. Detoxification, in particular chelation, is limited here however to synthetic chelants, which is not Health-Spy's favoured approach. Otherwise a very good high level summary.

Ken Lassesen's CFS web site was under construction in 2001 but never appears to have been finished. However, he did compile it into a single pdf file. It contains a huge amount of information, not all of which BlackSpy has validated or approved necessarily, but well worth a read or scan.

The M.E. Association's web site is listed below. It offers some useful information and suggested tests.
www.meassociation.org.uk
Tony Britton of the M.E. Association said of Health-Spy.com that 'We are worlds apart in approach. I don't think there's much we can offer each other.' However, at least he was polite enough to reply, and polite in his response, despite his no doubt extremely sceptical view of Health-Spy and it's 'nutritional' approach. This is more than can be said for the other 'M.E.' Research and Support organisations, who did not even bother to reply to BlackSpy. In BlackSpy's view they are all very narrowly focussed and not a great credit to sufferers of CFS and ME in the UK.
Dr Charles Shepherd is the Medical Advisor for the M.E. Association, whilst making many correct statements, believes that 'despite the enthusiasm of many alternative practitioenrs (and self help books on the illness) there is still no proven link between ME and Vitamin deficiencies; Mineral and trace element deficiencies, but publication of the magnesium study quoted by Martin Lev is awaited with interest; Candidiasis, intestinal or systemic; Clinical immunodeficiency, although various changes in components of the immune response (e.g. natural killer cells) are being reported; Toxic colon; Measurable hypoglycaemia. The link with multiple food allergies and environmental sensitivities is very debatable...'
Dr Charles Shepherd believes that the main three groups of medically qualified practitioners who are 'treating' 'M.E.' patients are 'psychiatrists, using anti-depressants and behaviour modification therapy; Dr Peter Nixon, from Charing Cross Hospital, who believes that almost all these patients are hyperventilating/overbreathing; and a small group of private doctors, some of whom are charging desperate patients large sums of money for the very speculative approaches to management...' Dr Shepherd does not believe that all three groups are necessarily treating the same condition. In BlackSpy's view, it is much more than this, that each case of 'CFS' or 'ME' is completely different and unique to that individual, and that methods used by various practitioners of measuring progress is often very crude. Whilst there are indeed many doctors charging large sums for somewhat speculative treatments or partially effective treatments, there are indeed some who are providing effective treatment. Dr Shepherd seems to rule out a number of factors contributing to many cases of CFS and ME, on a somewhat arbitrary basis, despite a great deal of empirical evidence to suggest that they do play a factor in the majority of 'M.E.' cases in some capacity; which leads BlackSpy to believe that he does not really understand what is going on in the body in each case. Whilst dismissing toxicity and nutritional factors, Dr Shepherd does not promote research to actually disprove these factors and to understand the effect they actually do have. He appears to have a binary approach to 'M.E.' People often assume that because of the name, the M.E. Association is at the cutting edge of 'M.E.' research and is representative of the community of M.E. specialists and sufferers, but this is not really the case at all. Action for M.E. broke away from the M.E. Association in the mid 1980s for this reason. Not that Action for M.E. is perfect either, but it reflects the division in opinion, understanding and approach to CFS and ME.

Chlorella Pyrenoidosa is a more nutritious form of Chlorella than Chlorella Vulgaris. Whether Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica is actually better than Spirulina Platensis is a matter of debate. It is probably best to try smaller quantities of various brands from local suppliers and to see which one agrees with you best, then bulk buy your favourite. It is recommended to stick with a high quality brand, as low quality brands can often contain high levels of heavy metals. Please note that Cyanotech in Hawaii are the only company to actually grow Spirulina Pacifica (which is a sub-strain of Platensis), which is grown only in Hawaii. Various brands resell this Spirulina Pacifica, including Nutrex, Now and MicroOrganics in the UK. Earthrise is a well respected supplier of Spirulina Platensis. LifeFlow Meditation 2.0 by Project Meditation is a 10 level meditation programme using one frequency per track rather than mixing multiple frequencies as in other products. The reputedly cutting edge technology uses Binaural Beats as well as Isochronic and Monaural Beats. Each track (one track per CD) is a dedicated frequency, and is listened to for 1-2 months before moving onto the next CD. One starts at CD 10 and works one's way down to CD 1. The progression is from Alpha down to Delta. There are no 'tones' but just natural sounds etc. One can either purchase all 10 Audio CDs (expensive) or buy the mp3 files on a monthly or bimonthly basis, one at a time (possbily ripping each one to CD for non-computer or mp3 player use). There is no difference in audio quality between the two formats in this case.:

Alternative Approaches:
This section is for illustrative purposes. The web sites below are NOT being promoted or recommended, but are included to compare what you have learnt on this web site with some other approaches available. This will hopefully help to increase your understanding of the core principles of cause and treatment, so you can build a picture of what types of treatment are out there, and thus help you determine what type of consultant you want to use and what type you want to avoid, and to ultimately make up your own mind. Some of these methods BlackSpy personally likes very much and use many of the ideas promoted on this site, but believes focus on perhaps too narrow a subset of possible areas. Some of these are methods that BlackSpy has no personal experience on and has no opinion on, using similar (but not identical) principles to treat specific disorders discussed on this site. Other methods use an entirely different approach to tackling some of the bio-chemical or skeletal disorders described on this web site and are not something that BlackSpy personally recommends. However, each personal must choose their own path and make up their own mind. This is why they are included. BlackSpy does not however recommend reading these links until you have a reasonable working knowledge of all the concepts on this web site.

An electrical device working on the premise of using certain frequencies of fluctuating electromagnetic field (presumably) to increase the voltage of the body's cells. It is claimed to be used for diagnosing problems and conditions as well as the body's responses to various supplements or external test items. The treatment is therefore presumably only as good as the software and the practitioner. The VIBE Machine cannot be purchased by the public, as presumably is cost prohibitive and requires training. However, a list of practitioners with a VIBE Machine can be found at the web sites below.

VOICEEntertainment.net offers a sound file download or CD of the 'NASA Sound of the Sun exposed to water'. This is a sound file that is supposed to harmonically energise water so that it mimmicks water that has absorbed the sun's rays and energy signature. The concept was developed by David Sereda and Saida Medvedeva. It sounds similar in some respects to BioPro Technology's I-Water/I-H2O which uses sound waves to ionise/alkalise water.

General Methods, Techniques and Treatments:
The Gabriel Method is a dieting and health restoration method devised by Jon Gabriel. It does not use dieting but utilising the body's own internal logic about whether it 'wants' to gain weight or lose weight. His approach to losing weight is said to be backed by solid, cutting edge obesity research from over four years of full- time investigation of the roles of biochemistry, neurobiology, quantum physics and human consciousness in weight-loss.

Field Control Therpay (FCT) is an integrative system of medicine created by New York physician, Savely Yurkovsky, M.D. It is a type of therapy using Bio-Resonance Testing to identify sources of toxins and harmful micro-organisms in the body and special Homeopathic remedies to encourage the body's natural detoxification pathways and to support the organs and restore cellular energy fields (providing a coherent energy pattern to the body in the homeopathics which is said to help restore the body's natural coherent energy pattern by communicating with the body in energetic terms), rather than rely on chemical means to remove toxins, which is believed to ineffective or to drive the 'cause' of the disease deeper.
'The homeopathic remedies used in F.C.T. are unlike that of classical homeopathy. F.C.T. uses causative homeopathy (isopathy) involving nosodes which are made from the bioenergetic signatures of actual toxins such as mercury and candida and sarcodes which are made from the bioenergetic signatures organs.'
FCT seems to use principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and toxicology and mainstream medicine, and also 'Quantum Physics.' The methods of identification and the understanding of the mechanics of the illnesses seem to be shared with those described on Health-Spy.com, but with a different route ore more speicalised route in terms of actual treatment.

Cellular Memory Release (CMR) is a system devised by Luis Diaz, who comes from a background in Specialised Kinesiology & Touch for Health, Oriental Medicine, Shaitsu, Reiki, Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Nutrition and Herbology. CMR is reputed to be an 'effective, practical synthesis of tools for accessing and freeing the trapped, stagnant life force held inside the cells of your body. The crystallization of this life force within the cellular memory of your being is the root cause of most manifested life imbalances, be it physical, emotional, psychological or spiritual. There is a vast intelligence in you just waiting to set you free. It has the wisdom to heal, the knowledge to share, and the information to help show you how to live life at your maximum potential.' It works on the basis of redressing the balance between 'Positive Emotional Charge' and 'Negative Emotional Charge' of individual cells, working with emotional issues to release negative cellular memory.

The Homeostatis Protocol by Blake Sawyer (Triad) is a method recommended for general health. The general philosophy is similar to that on this web site, e.g. detoxification, water ionisers, immune system support etc. However it differs in that it does not recommend mineral and vitamin supplements as they are claimed to 'rob' the body of nutrition and have the opposite effect intended. The protocol also recommends fixed supplements rather than an adaptive approach. There are a number of big claims too in the protocol, in that it is claimed to be able to cure any number of complex 'untreatable' illnesses (an FDA warning letter to Triad is shown in a link below). The Homeostasis Protocol is not described on the web site, but is broadly similar in certain respects to the 'Athlete's Protocol, which is'. A booklet on the Homeostasis Protocol is available when LifeWave products or other supplements are ordered from Triad. HPI (Human Probiotic Infusion) Therapy is a type of probiotic therapy for IBS where a course of (oral) antibiotics is first employed to kill off all bacteria in the colon (and small intestine), followed by an intensive high strength probiotic infusion 'up the bottom' (i.e. to the colon only and not the small intestine, which has the potential to cause bad bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine and yeast overgrowth in the the large and small intestines if not managed properly). It is said to cure most IBS cases, although a 'cure' (a temporary alleviation in symptoms?) for CFS cases is reported to be around the 50% mark in the small group of patients who engaged this treatment.

The Guaifenesin Protocol as described by The Fibromyalgia Center centres around abstaining from dietary sources of salicylic compounds and other compounds for the treatment of FMS. The National M.E. Centre and Centre for Fatigue Syndromes is a centre/clinic at Old Harold Wood Hospital Site, in Romford, Essex. Consultants include Dr Betty Dowsett (microbiologist) and Prof. Leslie Findley (neurologist). Findley is also a senior neurologist at the Essex Neurosciences Unit of the Havering Hospital NHS Trust based at Queens Hospital in Romford, Essex, and according to one of BlackSpy's associates has been known to assist NHS patients in their dealings with their GPs to receive appropriate diagnosis rather than the 'brush off' which is not unusual amongst the NHS's GPs. However, other patients have reported still being prescribed GET and (exercise) Pacing based 'treatments' by Dr Findley which would indicate perhaps less than an ideal approach to treatment and indeed causality. BlackSpy cannot comment on their general understanding and approach to holistic medicine and appropriateness of diagnosis or treatment however, but from third hand information it does not instill a huge amount of confidence. But it is a start of sorts.

German New Medicine (GNM) developed by Dr Ryke Geerd Hamer, M.D., is a type of treatment for cancer which operates on the basis of stress being a major factor in the livers of cancer patients prior to developing cancer (based on empirical observation and also on the known effects that long term chronic stress has on the immune system). Dr Hamer believes that cancer in of itself cannot kill, but that the stress component certain allows it to do so. BlackSpy believes that whilst there is some logic here, to focus purely on the psychological (which is of fundamental importance in such cases in BlackSpy's opinion), it would be foolish to ignore detoxification protocols and diet changes, and indeed other types of treatment. Perhaps this is an over-simplification of GNM. Dr Hamer claims to have been plagiarised by many organisations and groups over the last 20 years or so, including NLP and even Scientology.

Oxygenating/Oxidant Supplements:
Web sites advocating the use of Ozone, the poweful oxidising agent, to combat harmful micro-organism overgrowth/infection (in the large intestine) can be seen below. If this treatment is localised to the large intestine, then only so much damage will occur to the gut floral balance in the GI tract.

Hydrogen Peroxide, the strong oxidising agent, a topical antiseptic, is advocated as useful treatment tool against harmful microorganisms and viruses, and to assist in oxygenating the body, by some. Opinion is divided on the subject. Those who believe taking H2O2 is a bad idea point to the fact that it is an oxidising agent, and will act in the same negative manner as taking in free radicals, which act to oxidise the body's cells, i.e. one should be trying to increase one's intake of antioxidants (reduced compounds) rather than ingesting more oxidising agents that have the opposite effect. In addition, as argued by BlackSpy, certain parts of the GI tract, especially the Small Intestine, are anaerobic environments, and some probiotic bacteria there is exclusively anaerobic, and oxygenating those areas or sending oxidising agents into those areas will only kill these beneficial organisms off. "Hydrogen peroxide does participate in the bactericidal processes within activated phagocyte cells. But when it escapes from the cells into the adjacent extracellular space during the inflammatory process, it becomes a major contributor to the tissue damage seen in lung disease, malignancies, and hemolysis. The presence of pharmacological concentrations of hydrogen peroxide in the blood is clearly a double-edged sword which can easily cause as much harm as it can cause good." (Green, S.) The American Cancer Society states that "there is no scientific evidence that hydrogen peroxide is a safe, effective or useful cancer treatment", and advises cancer patients to "remain in the care of qualified doctors who use proven methods of treatment and approved clinical trials of promising new treatments." Another controversial alternative medical procedure is inspiration of hydrogen peroxide at a concentration of about 1%. Internal use of high concentration hydrogen peroxide has a history of causing fatal blood disorders, and its recent use as a therapeutic treatment has been linked to several deaths. During the Second World War, Doctors in Nazi concentration camps experimented with the use of hydrogen peroxide injections in the killing of human subjects.

Supporters of H2O2 therapy (using greatly diluted food grade hydrogen peroxide containing no additives or stabilisers) argue that it is naturally occurring in rainwater (created from the ozone layer), and that with increased levels of atmospheric pollution that we see today, less and less reaches the ground. Farmers compensate for this by adding H2O2 to water used on plants, it assists plant growth as well as acting as an insecticide. Of course, we are not plants. H2O2 can cause burns, at 10-30% concentration, but the typical concentration it is ingested in is around 0.1% or so. This is still relatively strong but will not burn the skin or mouth. Incidences of fatalities following ingestion of H2O2 have involved drinking concentrated H2O2 (i.e. 30-60%!)

www.the-natural-path.com/hydrogen-peroxide-therapy.html
The body also produces its own H2O2, in the body's white blood cells, to help fight off unwanted foreign organisms or particles. Vitamin C is believed to help fight infections by being converted into H2O2 (intracellular) which stimulates the production of prostoglandins (a class of lipid 'hormones'). However this is arguably a reason to take high Vitamin C dosages rather than actual H2O2 so that the H2O2 is produced in the correct places. Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria in the colon and vagina (if you have one) also produce H2O2, however this is localised to those areas only, and is not something that occurs throughout the body and indeed the Small Intestine.
According to Dr Martin Pall, H2O2 helps to increase BH4 production, which can help to decrease the uncoupling of NOS enzymes, thus lowering Nitric Oxide production. However it does put additional oxidative stress on the body. Please see the Peroxynitrite page for more information.
When it comes to oxygenation of the body, Dr Charles Farr's research apparently shows that it is not actually the H2O2 that results in the increased oxygen levels in the body, but it is the effect of enzymatic stimulation that results in the increased oxygen levels. Otherwise, ingesting H2O2 would simply result in increased levels of oxidising agents and O- rather than than actual O2. Low oxygen levels in the body often lead to conditions such as dysbiosis and even cancer.

One natural source of H2O2 is found in the waters of Lourdes in France, around 0.25% H2O2, and is renowned for its alleged healing qualities. This is not quite as attested by Wikipedia. The location was revealed to Bernadette Soubrirous, 14 year old girl, in 1858 in a vision she had of the Virgin Mary.
Mother's milk, especially colostrum, contains significant levels of H2O2. Indeed, the H2O2 in colostrum is regarded as being an immune system stimulating substance or transfer factor, in addition to the IgG-type immunoglobulins. Doctors in the British army used intravenous hydrogen peroxide to treat victims of the Spanish Flu of 1918-1919 in India. It is estimated that over 10 million people have ingested or had injections of H2O2 to date.
http://www.naturalnews.com/009912.html
H2O2 is produced during respiration, although this is intracellular, although its presence can pose an oxidative risk within the cell. The body uses a protective enzyme, Catalse and to a lesser extent Glutathione peroxidase, that prevents the mitochindria being damagd by H2O2, which break it down. These enzymes are also found in the blood, and any H2O2 ingested will likely be destroyed by the blood (localised bubbling off of Oxygen) unless it hits any bad (or good anaerobic) bacteria first; and if it is not, it may potentially cause oxidative damage to cell walls (i.e. lipid peroxidation), DNA and indeed the kidneys. So whilst some alternative practitioners use H2O2 injections to help fight cancer and boost the immune system, as a short term solution, in the long term, it may actually cause enough DNA damage to cause cancer or at the very least premature ageing of the body and cells. Any benefit from H2O2 is likely to be localised if injected and penetrate into the GI tract if ingested. It is likely that the H2O2 that stays within the digestive tract is carried through the small then large intestine and may act to neutralise harmful anaerobic micro-organisms in the colon, but also probiotic anaerobic bacteria in the small intestine. However, the H2O2 cannot be destroyed quite that quickly in the blood, or those consultants who give their patients H2O2 injections would not see any beneficial results. H2O2 is sometimes used to clean cuts or treat ear infections, and can be seen to bubble, which is the enzmatic activity of it being broken down by the blood's enzymes into water and O2. However, some tissue damage has been noted in this application, although it is minimal.
BlackSpy has himself tried low doses of H2O2, at around 0.05%, orally, (i.e. 1-2 drops of 35% H2O2 solution in a glass of water) to treat dysbiosis, and it did help, although he felt some (presumably) 'die off' reaction immediately after ingesting, but did not pursue the treatment for more than a few days on account of debate in his mind over whether he was producing enough antioxidants to compensate and protect himself from adverse effects (poor Glutathione production at the time). The least oxidative damage is likely to occur in cases where dybiosis is more widespread, i.e. a great ratio of bad bacteria and yeasts to actual bodily cells; and when Glutathione peroxidase levels are adequate.
Additional discussion on the use of 'oxygenating' supplements (i.e. oxidising agents) can be found on the Viral page, the Bacterial page and also the Cardiac page.
Miracle Mineral Supplement (MMS) is a Sodium Chlorite solution (usually taken with citric acid) that produces Chlorine Dioxide once in the body (when acidified and mixed with our stomach acids). Sodium Chlorite (NaClO2) is a form of 'stabilised oxygen' and is alkaline. Chlorine Dioxide (ClO2) is a powerful oxidising agent (oxidant). MMS is said to be useful for treating Lyme Disease and various other ailments. BlackSpy does not generally favour oxygenation/oxidising agent products as: 1) they are oxidising agents (delivering ClO2- or O-- rather than O=O); 2) discourage people from learning to breathe/eat properly; 3) deliver oxygen radicals indiscriminately killing off some good anaerobic bacteria (wrong place, wrong concentration) as well as bad. Clearly such approaches can offer short term benefits, but the long term effects of killing off useful anaerobic bacteria and potentially putting excessive oxidative stress on the body must also be considered. BlackSpy tried taking Sodium Chlorite for a few days and found that it gave him a bad headache (perhaps as he had consumed it on a nearly empty stomach and not fully empty stomach), and significantly increased the level of inflammation symptoms (c/f Peroxynitrite) and made him feel much more fatigued - even after he had stopped taking it, pushing his condition onto a worse/lower level for weeks afterwards. There are many positive testimonials for this, but clearly one has to use one's own discretion.

The Perrin Technique is an osteopathic approach to getting the spinal fluid and lympathic system moving, in order to remove toxins from the body. The Whitcomb Method is a spinal-based treatment for FMS, devised by Dr Paul Whitcomb, a Chiropractor. The Whitcomb Method promotes the idea of specialist spinal treatment to resolve all biochemical problems, regarded as the chief causative of these problems, as opposed to examining a patient's biochemical problems and treating these. Some (but not all) FMS patients do appear to have skeletal problems as a factor in their overall condition (including a history of whiplash). Are the rest of FMS sufferers actually suffering from postural problems with no accident history? Clearly this is strongly debated. The second web site is an interview with Dr Whitcomb. As of 2008, Whitcomb has not taught anyone else his technique.

Manipulation Under Anaesthesia or MUA is a procedure where a person is anaesthetised and various osteopathic style manipulations are performed in order to break down scar tissue. It sounds similar to osteopathy, or rather deep tissue massage and stretching, except that it removes the brain and the pain barrier from the equation in order to go further. It is more focussed on lengthening the muscles and breaking down scar tissue and lesions of the muscles around the spine than actual joint and vertebrae manipulation. To what extent do the muscles react to such manipulation after the event is not known by BlackSpy - which occurs when the nervous system is fully engaged during normal osteopathy to some extent (going against the path or resistance rather than unfolding the resistance itself). This seems to be a medical approach to the problem, to bypass the perceived hurdle rather than to try less invasive approach. Dr Eric Waldorf's web site is shown below.

Health/Fitness Related Instructors/Practitioners Not Recommended:
This section is perhaps out of place on this page. However, here it is! Wherever you go, you will not often find an instructor or practitioner who is perfect. Quite often, one has minor reservations, but in general the level of service is good. Every person is different and for a variety of reasons one may not get the benefit one would have hoped for. Sometimes there are complicating factors. Occasionally, one comes across an instructor or practitioner who is so awful that it is worth mentioning to others; so that any interested party should approach with caution and try to seek the opinions of others who have had contact with that instructor or practitioner. And to make up their own mind. If you have slight reservations at the start of your dealings with someone, they are likely to become bigger over time, rather than be 'swept under the carpet'. In the case of small sized suppliers, especially found on the internet, you don't know until you've tried them what they will be like. It is useful to find references, reviews or recommendations for such suppliers.
You are never going to avoid practitioners, instructors or suppliers that are incompetent, unscrupulous, who provide poor customer service and/or who are bordering on the criminal. However, those of particular note are listed below. This is really for the benefit of those considering using these individuals or companies, to make up their own minds and to view BlackSpy's experience in context.
Roy Abrahams, Orthodontist:
http://www.orthodontist-online.co.uk/index.html
BlackSpy's experience from 2000 to 2002 was of ineffective orthodontic treatment, with a lack of direction in treatment of the teeth of the lower jaw, moving them back and up, then forward and down, and achieving very little apart from heavy exposure of the roots of the teeth and a misaligned biting plane. A big gap was left between the teeth on both the left and right side of the lower jaw. Why the teeth were instructed to have been removed is beyond BlackSpy's understanding. A very disappointing result. Once you've exposed the roots, the gums won't grow back again so it is a permanent feature! The gap in the teeth denied some of the teeth structural support and means that the discrepency in the biting plane will just get worse over time unless corrective action is taken.
BlackSpy would not suggest that you follow the recommendation of your local dentist about seeing a particular orthodontist, but find the best orthodontist you can find in a big city, preferably capital city. Most local dentists are likely to be rather average, and thus are not in the best position to be able to judge the work of others in the field of dentistry and facial/oral surgery. Orthodontics are very tricky. As with most things, an average practitioner will yield poor results. An excellent one will yield good results.
Another factor to consider is that the advice you receive may vary considerably, sometimes annoyingly so when it is too late! Some dentists or orthodontists will encourage wearers of a brace/orthodontics to brush their teeth regularly and well to avoid discolouration of the teeth relative to that underneath the appliances (seen once they are removed). Others will tell you to only brush very gently, as you would be brushing your teeth many times a day anyway, there may be a danger of receeding gums from repeated aggressive brushings. It seems that a dentist or orthodontist will exaggerate advice as they assume the average person is lazy and won't bother looking after their teeth, regardless of who they are talking to. It is not sensible to give over-zealous advice to someone who is already neurotic! It would be better just to tell the truth and be honest!
BlackSpy was advised that the excessive recession of the teeth on his lower jaw was down to his overbrushing of his teeth during the time the braces were in place. However, this does not quite tally, as there was minimal recession on the top teeth, and BlackSpy was not aware of having brushed them significantly differently (but could be wrong of course). BlackSpy put this down to the excessive movement of the front lower teeth during treatment, which moved up too much when pulled back so had to be pushed back forwards again. It is also likely that the actual mandibular osteotomy was also a factor as the jaw rarely 'likes' being cut and moved forwards, and being forced to grow back together again (to bridge the new gap) over many months.
In addition, once the recession of the teeth had started, the rate of recession was hugely greater than the normal rate of recession, even given gentle brushing, and in the course of 5 years, the gum recession was so bad that BlackSpy will likely have most of the teeth on his lower jaw fall out in the next 5 or 10 years and will need to have numerous implants fitted (at enormous expense). BlackSpy's molars on the lower jaw were worst affected, followed by his canine teeth. In fact his left lower molar was worst affected and has ached intensely for many years when chewing something very chewy. He also cannot eat apples without a knife as biting into them with his upper incisor teeth is too painful. The jaw operation associated with the orthodontics (the osteotomy) also left BlackSpy with little sensation in his lower lip. Prior to the orthodontics, there was very minimal if any recession on the teeth of his lower jaw, BlackSpy's gums being healthy and strong, and BlackSpy had been known to brush his teeth quite vigorously prior to that.
Towards the end of the 'treatment', Roy became tired of BlackSpy and practically threw him out at the end. When the retainers were issued, instructions for their care were given extremely nonchalantly. Retainers look similar to boxing mouth guards and are worn at night on occasion to prevent the slow movement of the teeth back to their original (undesired) positions after orthodontic treatment (braces). BlackSpy was told to 'brush them with toothpaste occasionally if you want to'. However, after 2 or 3 days of wearing them, BlackSpy became aware of a funny taste whilst wearing them and found pieces of white fungus floating around in his mouth. Highly pleasant! Even brushing them with toothpaste once or twice a day wasn't enough, and after many months of trying to clean them properly, he asked the orthodontist's reception and was told to soak them in vinegar overnight, every few months or so. BlackSpy further has found that leaving the retainers when not in use in a mug of concentrated (saturated) saline solution or in a pint glass/mug of vinegar (with cling film on the top to prevent one's bathroom smelling too much!) keeps any bacterial/fungal build up from occurring. Retainers are then brushed with toothpaste and rinsed immediately before use each time when removed from whichever solution is used to store them in when not in use. It would have been preferable to have been advised of the correct procedure from the start.
Other criticisms of orthodontics, mainly regarding retainer usage, are quoted below from the Sources of Toxins page.
'Those who are considering orthodontic work should consider the fact that as well as the gum recession, they will need to wear plastic retainers on most nights in bed to fight the body's natural genetic memory which moves the teeth back to their original positions.
www.popeorthodontics.com/retention.asp
A wearing schedule suggested has been for the first 6 months after removing braces, to wear the retainers all the time (except during meals and when drinking acidic drinks). The next 6 months, wear them at night only. The next 6 months after that, wear them 3 nights a week, and for the remainder of your life, wear them one night a week only. The advice BlackSpy received personally was to wear them initially 7 nights a week and gradually reduce this to one night a week. BlackSpy has found even after several years that there is considerable movement of the teeth in between the weekly wears, and the teeth aching and feeling less secure after each nightly wear for half a day or so, meaning the teeth are being moved backwards and forwards, shallowing the roots gradually over time.

Vacuum form retainers are depicted above. These are worn on both upper and lower teeth (as per above schedule). They are usually made of softer plastics, which tend to leach more. Unlike with plastic bottles, retainers are reused regularly, and the amount of leaching of BPA and other compounds is likely to increase over time. BlackSpy noticed that after a year or so, the retainers, even when kept clean, could only be worn for so many hours a night before the taste in the mouth became too disgusting. This is a sign of leaching. It is likely that some organic toxins are ingested in this manner, through swallowing or sublingually directly into the bloodstream. Orthodontists will vary in the advice they give regarding how often retainers shoulld be replaced. If they are not kept clean properly and cleaned meticulously (and regularly soaked in vinegar), then there is an additional mould problem. At present, BlackSpy is not aware of any type of non-plastic retainer available to take the place of current retainer materials for the top and bottom teeth, and as a result cannot recommend orthodontics in general as the fundamental maintenance premise is based on ingesting carcinogenic compounds over a lifetime.'
Does BlackSpy recommend Orthodontics? Well, not really! If one considers the amount of time, effort and expense put in, and the amount of associated aggravation in the past, present and likely future, then for a little cosmetic vanity, it was really not worth it. If you go to a highly skilled orthodontist, the amount of gum recession
Sunseed Desert Technology:
www.sunseed.org.uk
Sunseed Desert Technology is the Spanish project of The Sunseed Trust Ltd, a registered charity founded by Harry Hart, co-founder of Green Deserts. SDT was a desert reclamation centre started in 1986 in a small village Los Molinos in Rios Aguas, near Sorbas in Almeria. It consists of 3 houses and a number of cultivated terraces. Visitors pay a nominal amount to stay, as part of a working holiday, working half days for 6 days a week. Green Deserts was dissolved allegedly in a controversy surrounding wasting or misuse of charity funds for personal use.
BlackSpy stayed there in the summer of 1991. The location was idyllic indeed. BlackSpy had some good times there. However, he had a number of reservations about how it was run and managed at the time. The staff were predominantly visitors who decided to come back and work there on a nominal salary, for a one year contract minimum. However, as they were of the 'hippie' disposition for the large part, inevitably they were not altogether mature, and the staff were smoking cannabis and drinking wine many nights and their expertise in desert reclamation questionable. The atmosphere was more of a party village (c/f the film 'The Beach') than serious environmental charity. The atmosphere was generally good.
The projects that were undertaken were of dubious scientific value, and on one occasion BlackSpy and others were tasked by the psychedelically challenged evironmental scientist to pin flat pieces of cactus to a vertical cliff face, the cut on the side and not facing the cliff face. This was in some way supposed to protect the cliff face from erosion or to encourage the cacti or other plant life to grow on it. A passing car slowed down and stopped and the driver and passenger were hysterically laughing at what we were doing - being locals and knowing more about the indigenous flora probably than anyone doing than the 'scientist'. The project relied mainly on outside talent from visitors and guests rather than the staff whose expertise was questionable. Most visitors were there for a good time as it was cheap to stay there and it was in Southern Spain. The staff, besides being stoned much of the time, would form sexual relationships with one another, gender and sexual orientation permitting, which would often result in break ups and tension in the community, which would not be hidden from the paying guests - not particularly professional. The staff generally kept to themselves in a form of clique in the evenings, somewhat out of kilter with their 'hippie ideals' and it didn't feel so great for the guest who felt on occasion that they weren't good enough to socialise with them - resulting in a two tier feeling and atmosphere. BlackSpy asked one of the staff members about this and she told him that they found it upsetting getting to know visitors who would leave after a few weeks. This is a rather negative attitude and a sign of mental weakness and emotional immaturity in BlackSpy's opinion. The converse is true that one could make hundreds of friends from all over the world instead and simply enjoy people whilst they were there. The staff did not inform guests about the local area and did not seem to have any real objective local knowledge. This resulted in visitors not really getting the best out of their stay and exploring the local area. For example, the location was a great place of mountain biking and was at the centre of the largest subterranean cave system in Europe. The surrounding hills were populated by deserted villages, vacated for labour migration reasons, with plates still on the tables.
The food was purchased in bulk from the local town and the community baked its own sour dough bread, which would be healthy if it were not for the sugary jams that were served with it. The diet was strictly vegan, and the dietary regime had not been thought through well enough, and nuts hurredly introduced halfway during BlackSpy's stay when someone pointed out that the diet was insufficient in its diversity and nutrition. Most of the staff were very slim. Whilst aiming to be healthy, strong black coffee was available and drunk by most visitors and staff, and much jam, honey and cheap (chemical-laden) Spanish red wine was consumed, in addition to not meeting all of one's nutritional requirements.
The plantation areas were however a success, and a variety of food stuffs were grown and irrigated from the local stream - where the guests and staff would wash and bath (polluting it with shampoo and detergents). Aside from these inconsistencies, great lengths were gone to to be environmentally friendly. In the village were a number of hangers on had moved in and bought/built houses, who had caught onto the fact that there was a hippie community thriving there. One of these was a Dutch cannabis dealer and the other was an aristocratic drop out, although staff were keen to hide the fact that they all bought their cannabis from within the village to stop guests openly buying and smoking cannabis and bringing the centre into disrepute (or at least more than the staff already did).
Whilst one may be critical of the way the charity was run during that time, accepting charitable donations from the public and making little use of them besides living themselves ecologically in certain areas and generally having a good time, there was little or no actual work done towards desert reclamation, which was how it described itself. From the photographs on the Sunseed web site and Los Molinos blog spot, it appears that the site has become somewhat more sophisticated technologically and perhaps may even be making some serious efforts towards serious scientific work. It still seems to attract hippie types looking to escape from British society. So whilst BlackSpy cannot comment on the effectiveness of the work curently performed there, and must cut them a little slack for taking a few years to get going, there were many inexcusable problem areas that should have been addressed. He would certainly not recommend that anyone give Sunseed a charitable donation, but if you want to stay there to get away from it all, then you might like it (assuming the staff working there at the time are not acting unprofessionally).
Here is a blog site with a series of reviews of the project. One early staff member from 1989 to 1992, states that the staff were trying to screw as much money out of the project as possible and that the (rather inept) manager's role was mainly to stop this occurring. This is rather typical of many aspiring hippies, whose ideals go out of the window when the opportunity arises to take everything they can get.

Westlab Limited:
www.westlabshop.co.uk
BlackSpy purchased 20kg of Dead Sea Salts from Westlab Limited, 433A Woodham Lane, Woodham, Addlestone KT15 3QE via the internet during 2009 and delivery was within 1-2 weeks and communication satisfactory. The product was relatively cheap and of acceptable quality considering the price (there were stones in the salt, but finer grade Dea Sea Salt was in smaller packets and almost twice the price). BlackSpy decided to use the firm again in November 2009. He received a communication some days later stating that there were some difficulties relating to imports from their supplier in Israel, and that deliveries would be forthcoming in 2 weeks. The goods were finally shipped, Westlab claims, approximately 5 weeks after the order was placed, and delivery by City Link. However, the goods, as of 6 weeks after the claimed first shipping date, are still not received. Westlab claimed that the first delivery took place, for which a card was put through the door by the delivery person (who did not actually knock on the door), after 2.5 weeks (should be a next day delivery service). The goods were returned to them they stated. They claim to have made another delivery attempt, but no card was received this time. Westlab do not seem to understand the concept of customer service and when a customer has been had a rather poor deal with a supplier, one should make an effort to ensure the remainder of the deliver goes without fault or problems; to actively chase up the delivery with the delivery company and to make sure it goes smoothly. The company seem to be rather amateurish. After 5 weeks of non-delivery and little effort being made to chase up the delivery and ensure it was made, and after ignoring requests to either delivery or provide a refund, BlackSpy was eventually forced to make a claim with his credit card company. If BlackSpy lived locally, he might buy the said item from their store (if he had not personally experienced their shoddy service), if it was in stock, but he would under no circumstances deal with this company again or recommend anyone doing so by mail order. They are not serious about doing business and have little comprehension of customer service.
Mazzoni & Pensator Sprl:
Below is an instance of borderline criminal behaviour from Mazzonishop.com in a watch purchase BlackSpy made. They essentially sent BlackSpy the wrong watch (a much cheaper watch), and when BlackSpy returned it for a refund, ignored his requests for 4 months, and in the end BlackSpy was forced to choose another watch which he did not particularly like (which he recently sold at a loss) rather than simply lose his money. The seller was classified as 'Trusted Seller' on Chrono24.com! The seller is currently using misinformation to sell more products by claiming all watches are liquidation stock, to make them sound like they might be good value, which they are not (significantly overpriced for the large part).
http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=271923
Quoted from a post on the Watchuseek.com forum:
'Purchased a Hamilton 1970 Type 1 Navigation Watch (RAAF) (36mm) from Mazzoni & Pensator (www.mazzonishop.com), advertised on www.Chrono24.com. Having only dealt with private individuals on there with great success, I assumed dealing with a 'Trusted Seller' would be smooth. Unfortunately I was wrong! After some haggling, agreed on the price, and sent a paypal payment. This was May 2008. Mazzoni were also advertising a much less expensive 1983 Hamilton GG-W-113 (33mm), with the similar name 'Hamilton Military'.
As I suspected might happen, 2 weeks later, a watch arrived, but it was the wrong one! It was the cheaper GG-W-113. I contacted them and told them, and they said I could keep it (for that price I don't think so) or send it back for a refund. It would have been more professional to ask the other buyer who bought the Hamilton GG-W-113 and who actually received a more expensive RAAF watch to send it back, but they didn't want to bother with this. That would have been the right thing to do. I had a joke with them that someone got a nice surprise (unlike me who got a nasty surprise).
They got the watch back another week later or so. After 2 months of waiting for a paypal refund and having had nothing I started chasing them up. The lady who works there can't speak any English so I dealt with a guy called Christian for the main part. Seemed like a nice guy, and sincerely, but wasn't the person making the payments/decisions. He said he'd get it sorted out. Nothing happened. I spoke to him a number of times over the next couple of months, but still nothing. Finally I was informed that they 'had a problem making paypal payments' - which I half believed at the time, but in hindsight was just a fob off. They asked for my bank details to wire the money to, which I gave them. Still nothing. At this point I had posted about my experience on this forum. The owner, Mr Mazzoni had seen this, and although factual in content, it implied that his company was disreputable or at least the customer service was appalling - which it was! He then went on to threaten me, and said that if I don't remove the post, 'something bad might happen'. Well it already had, they had messed up the transaction and were keeping my money with little interest in paying it back. How much worse was it going to get? He then told me he would refund my money but required me to remove my post as it was 'incorrect' - which I didn't press him on exactly what he disagreed with, as I had been very precise about the facts and it would have gotten nasty I am sure.
I removed the post and informed him, but still nothing. After chasing him up for several weeks, I decided that he basically was never going to refund me the money. At the time of offering the refund, he had also offered to sell me another watch (i.e. keep my money, and give him more money for a more expensive watch). I wasn't really keen on this as none of his more expensive watches took my fancy, and his prices weren't competitive on them anyway. So in the end I decided to ask for a Record Military watch. I didn't particularly want it, but it was the best of the bunch for me of what he had in stock. But getting that watch was better than being mugged and being out of pocket.
So after a few emails and weeks passing he paid attention to my emails and agreed to send me the watch, which had been advertised at a higher price than what I paid, but any watch purchase from these guys must involve haggling to get to a more palatable price.
So after 5 months I eventually got a watch that I didn't particularly want. The unwillingness to provide a refund for months on end and the untruths about why they 'couldn't' provide one (from my perspective) were really reflective of dire customer service. If they had sent the right watch and not been incompetent, then I am sure everything would have been dandy. But come an error on their part, they were not willing to follow the rules and act honorably, instead choosing to act like a bunch of chancers. I guess I was 'unlucky' and this kind of incompetent error doesn't happen all the time with them - and the resulting illegal behaviour that they engaged in as they thought they could get away with it.
This chancer attitribute is clearly illustrated in some of their pricing of military watches on chrono24. Whilst for items like Tudor, they are in line with most other watch dealers, for military items where the prices are highly variable, in many cases they seem to charge 2-3 times the market rate, even for items like CWC and NOS Marathon. I spotted a 1991 CWC chrono being advertised recently for nearly 3000!!! Hello?! They are perhaps hoping for some mug to come along who knows nothing about watches to pay the full price perhaps? On one occasion I saw an Elgin 24 hour watch (a converted one) discounted by 50% when no one bought at the higher asking price.
Whilst you may well be lucky and have a smooth transaction with this company, I would never buy from them again nor recommend them to anyone. This is no way to run a business.
Antique Watch Company (AWC) Limited
www.antiquewatchcouk.com
BlackSpy wanted to find a competent watchmaker in and around the South East of England experienced with vintage and military watches to do a service on a front loading Benrus military watch. He spoke to the chief watchmaker at Antique Watch Company in London who said he was used to servicing front loaded watches (i.e. those where there is no case back but the movement is removed from the watch through the front. He had it serviced for 200 or so, and had the mainspring replaced on the request on the watchmaker. When it came back the crown was now continuously clicking when it was turned during winding (even when the mainspring had no power) which it never did before. The watch stopped after after a day and did not start again, so he sent it back and it was returned a few weeks later working again (but still with the winding issue). BlackSpy assumed there was nothing that could be done about this and thought nothing of it. BlackSpy had an old quartz watch for a bezel adjustment and two front loaded plastic military watches to service, and he sent these in to the same shop (including the Benrus also, as he'd come across a specificationf for the gaskets that would allow the watch to be waterproof). After a month after receipt, the watchmaker, whilst advertising that he could service that the brand of the Quartz watch and antique watches by that brand, announced that he did not want to touch it as it was an old quartz. The other 2 front loaded black watches he said he couldn't service as they were front loaded, which was strange seeing as he had told me he was competent at dealing with them before. He said he would try to source the gaskets (after a month of having received the watch). After 2 more months, and a few emails that duly ignored, BlackSpy requested the watches to be returned, as the watchmaker had appeared to have made no effort to find the gaskets and would likely have just left all 4 watches of BlackSpy's in the shop indefinitely or as good as. Thus after 3 months or so, the watches were returned, nothing having been done whatsoever (more than an initial 2 minute inspection)! This was a collosal waste of BlackSpy's time. BlackSpy later learnt that the clicking noise during the winding of the Benrus was a gearing issue and could be corrected by a competent watchmaker, which BlackSpy had got a recommendation for, which he then had fixed (at additional expense). BlackSpy won't be using the Antique Watch Company again.
